Your treatment
The treatment begins with a case history as it helps for me to understand what has happened to your body in recent and not so recent times.
I particularly need to know about any work you have had on your jaw or extensive dental work, hip, knee or other joint replacements, breast implants and other surgery.
Then it's onto the table...
Bowen can be effective through light clothing, about T-shirt thickness, but sometimes it's better to work on your skin; you will never need to remove underwear.
You begin the treatment lying face down on the table, and I will cover you up and make sure you are warm and comfortable before we begin.
During the treatment
I don’t encourage you to chat so you can relax and drift off, but if you want to tell me anything at any stage that's fine.
I make a group of gentle moves, rolling over particular muscles with my fingers and thumbs. It is never painful, and any slight discomfort disappears within a few seconds.
The strange thing about Bowen...
I leave the room for a couple of minutes between groups of moves, to allow the moves to do their work, and let your body settle and relax. Imagine playing a guitar - the string is plucked in one place, but the vibrations continue through the body of the instrument for some time. This is similar to what happens with a Bowen move, and the pauses allow time for the move to work its way through the body.
This pattern continues until I have finished working on the back of your body, when you turn over and lie on your back. After working on the front of your body in the same way, the treatment finishes with some gentle movements over your face and head, then I leave you for a final break.
Once the treatment is finished
You need to get up carefully, so I will help you into a sitting position, or you can roll onto one side, depending on what is most comfortable for you.
Some moves take place with you sitting on the couch, and one standing, so if I am going to perform these moves I will let you know.
You finish the treatment with a glass of water, make your next appointment, and float off feeling great!
